Occupational Illness
An occupational illness is defined as any abnormal condition or disorder resulting from a non-instantaneous event or exposure in the work environment. In order for an illness to be work-related supporting documentation is required from a healthcare physician. This documentation must show the work environment or an occupational exposure played a significant role in the employee's development of an occupational illness. OSHA recognizes the following work-related categories as Occupational Illnesses:
- Cancer
- Chronic Irreversible Diseases
- Chronic Hearing Loss
- Chronic Respiratory Illness or Conditions
