Persistence & perseverance lands business major ideal internship

Business management major Natasha Zacarias ’18 knew that landing her ideal internship wouldn’t come from luck, but rather persistence and perseverance. That became her motivation to fully utilize the resources of Moravian’s Center for Career and Civic Engagement.

“I attended networking events through Moravian and constantly connected with the Career Center. [Assistant Director of Career Development and Alumni Engagement] Pat Hanna had informed me about an internship position available. I reached out to AXA Advisors in advance and applied immediately. With the support of the Career Center and my drive to pursue a new experience in business I was able to secure this job,” she says.

During her marketing internship at AXA Advisors, Karr Barth Associates, Inc., Zacarias was charged with the task of promoting a new book for the firm titled, “Financial Planning for Teachers.” Through the process of identifying school administrators at the largest school systems in the country and sending them media kits of the book Zacarias discovered that multitasking, organization, and communication were all essential skills.

“I created detailed spreadsheets of the project status and detailed periodic reports to the manager,” she says. “I had to effectively communicate my information clearly and concisely, both written and verbally. I also used various marketing tactics to improve the company’s media accounts.”

After completing this and a subsequent marketing internship, Zacarias is confident she is on the right career path. “I find this type of industry extremely enjoyable and interesting. From my experiences, there were always new media techniques to learn, strategies to be researched, and change to be adapted to quickly.”

“Hard work pays off,” Zacarias adds, and she will continue to do so in the hopes of launching a career in corporate business in the New York City area. “I am so thankful for the opportunities I have been given and I am looking forward to what the future will bring!”
