Carol Traupman Carr

Carol A. Traupman-Carr, PhD ’86

The Benigna Â鶹¹û¶³ Award recognizes an alumna or alumnus for outstanding contribution to the field of education. In recognition for her leadership in providing excellent support, knowledge, and guidance to the students at Moravian College, the Alumni Association is proud to present Carol Traupman-Carr, PhD ’86, with the 2016 Benigna Â鶹¹û¶³ Award.

Â鶹¹û¶³ has always been central to Carol Traupman-Carr’s interests and work. The 1986 summa cum laude graduate of Moravian College earned her PhD in musicology from Cornell University and then taught middle school in Ithaca, New York, for two years before returning to her alma mater as an adjunct and then full-time faculty member. She continues to hold a position as professor of music but has been working in administration since 2001, when she served first as associate dean of academic affairs and then as dean of curriculum and academic programs. Last year, Traupman-Carr was appointed associate provost of Moravian College. In this role she serves as associate chief academic officer and has institutional oversight for assessment, accreditation, and program development. The long list of Traupman-Carr’s contributions to Moravian College includes participating in all strategic plans; promoting and expanding assessment of academic programs; working with individual students to create pathways to graduation; developing Advance into Moravian, a summer bridge program for incoming first-year students; creating success seminars for new students or those on academic probation; and leading initiatives to add graduate programs in athletic training, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and physical therapy. Traupman-Carr was one of 28 people nationwide to be selected to participate in the 2015–2016 Senior Leadership Academy of the Council of Independent Colleges and American Academic Leadership Institute. Here at Moravian College, she has received the Board Chair’s Award for Excellence and the James J. Heller Award for Distinguished Administrative Service. In addition, Traupman-Carr has served for 14 years in a variety of volunteer roles at St. Ann School in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, including kindergarten music teacher, school board member, and chair of the first educational technology committee for the school.
