A Valued Voice

Kyla Brantley S’27 felt God calling her to ministry when she was a teenager, but it took her 25 years to answer that call. She is pursuing her Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree at Moravian Theological Seminary in hopes of one day helping diverse children grow in their faith. “I would like to create a Christian education curriculum for black and brown children—one that is culturally and generationally relevant,” Kyla says.

Brantley chose Moravian Theological Seminary because she wanted to attend an educational institution that would challenge her and prepare her for ministry in a diverse and changing world. She attends class remotely but says that does not detract from the deep connections she has with her professors and fellow students. Brantley knows her voice is valued, and she is learning how her personal gifts can be used in service to God and others. “This has been helpful as I discern where God is leading me in ministry. Moravian Theological Seminary is a part of my journey to self-discovery and growth as I follow my calling in meaningful ways.” 

Scholarship support has helped Brantley as she pursues her MDiv by easing financial burden. She is thankful to those who have invested in her future. “I am dedicated to deepening my understanding of theological thought, honing my ministerial skills, and serving my community. Why did you choose Moravian: In doing my research and talking with faculty and staff, I was impressed with its commitment to spiritual and academic growth. I wanted to be a part of an educational institution that would challenge me intellectually and prepare me for ministry in a diverse and changing world. 

What are you most proud of: I am most proud of actually starting seminary. I felt God calling me to ministry when I was a teenager however, after 25 years, I have finally decided to prepare myself to walk in that call. 

What do you enjoy most about Moravian: I enjoy connecting with professors and other students even though I am a distance learner. 

What is one thing you have learned: I have learned how to use theological language to express faith.
