MU Spotlight 20/20
Sara Steinman
What is your role at the college and what is something many may not know about the work you do?
I am currently an Assistant Athletic Director. Prior to transitioning into an administrative role this past August, I spent six years as an Assistant Women's Basketball coach and three of those years as the Intramural Director as well. Something others may not know about the work I do is that I am in charge of Amos the Greyhound but I am terrified of mascots.
My favorite spot on campus is…
Outside of Comenius Hall because I absolutely love the view. It is a beautiful, historic building. I am tempted to take a picture every time I cross the street walking toward Comenius.
What’s your favorite Â鶹¹û¶³ tradition?
I have two!
- The annual Women's Basketball Play 4Kay Day/Pink week because I love to see our campus and community come together to support a good cause. And as an organizer of the event, I am passionate about creating awareness and raising money for breast cancer.
- Serving Thanksgiving dinner for the students because I enjoy interacting with other volunteers while students enjoy a delicious meal!
One thing that many of my colleagues don’t know about me outside of my Â鶹¹û¶³ responsibilities is…
I know how to sew. I make t-shirt quilts in my spare time.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not on campus?
Going to baseball games. I am on a mission to see a game in every MLB stadium—I have been to 17 so far.
Finish this sentence: “When I grow up, I want to be _____.â€
A baseball usher, because spending everyday at the ballpark would be a dream come true.
Wild Card: Share a fun fact—anything!
I played college softball and set the school record for career and single-season home runs.
What sound do you love? Why?
The ocean, it is so peaceful and soothing. I love being at the beach because it is a time to relax and forget about everyday worries.
I can never resist a good _________________.
Piece of chocolate—I have a major sweet tooth!
What makes you happy?
Going for a run with my brother. We don't get to spend a lot of time together so when we have the opportunity to run it gives us the chance to catch up and talk about life.
