Teacher Certification in Art Â鶹¹û¶³ PK-12

Through arts education, learners expand their thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. The study of art education allows the future educator to help students understand new ways of thinking about the world around them through the study of Studio Habits and Visual Culture.  Future Art Educators at Moravian learn to harness the power of art education to create a student-centered, creative, and collaborative atmosphere in their classrooms. They learn by example in the Art and Â鶹¹û¶³ classrooms at Moravian and through four years of field experience. We strive to support our future art educators as they discover themselves as teachers and begin to understand our changing educational systems and their prospective students. At Moravian, we hope to develop enthusiastic teachers who know the possibilities and opportunities within their communities. In the art education program, our students will learn to do the same for their future students.

A central component of the Moravian Art Â鶹¹û¶³ program is the ability to conceptualize and practice learner-centered lessons rooted in solid and authentic pedagogical approaches based on the PDE Visual Arts and Humanities Standards and National Core Art Standards. Courses in the program ensure that teacher candidates understand students’ diverse learning needs and build a firm belief and confidence that the arts can strengthen our educational system. In addition to four years of field experience, Moravian Art Â鶹¹û¶³ students also sustain a studio art practice to inform and enhance their future careers in Art Â鶹¹û¶³.

Â鶹¹û¶³ encourages art education students to join the Moravian Chapter of the National Art Â鶹¹û¶³ Association (NAEA) and the Pennsylvania Art Â鶹¹û¶³ Association (PAEA). NAEA & PAEA are professional organizations for art teachers, museum educators, higher education faculty, and pre-service college students earning their degrees in art education, museum studies, art therapy, and related fields. By joining NAEA, you automatically become a member of PAEA, and you become a member of our NAEA/PAEA Student Chapter.
